Year 2017: JP makes a strong break!

SEASON REVIEW & PICS 2017

Thanks again to everyone for helping to make the 2016-2017 season a success. We had ups and downs and had to combine a lot at the tackle level. There was a lot of movement within the Rugby VA clubs, especially at the High School level, and that hurt us. We had several HS players leave to try out at the newly manufactured clubs which would offer more players and opportunity. This was, to me, understandable, but also extremely frustrating. Bottom line is we need recruit and fill our teams!

Vegas 2017
u13 Team to play in Vegas Tournament.

This was a busy year despite our low numbers. Our good friends and Old Boys Club partners the Wild Geese donated the funds to buy a scrum-sled. Thank you so much for your generosity, we now have the ability to do scrum work!

We took our U13 team to play in the Las Vegas Sevens tournament. We were entered in the U14 division, yet most of the clubs did not seem to follow the same age protocol that we did. We played against men and the boys lost every match but overall it was a great experience for them, the boys bonded and came out more mature and certainly learnt something!

Thank you to the Optimist Club and Linda Thompson (The Thompson Team of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Pen Fed Realty) who helped make this happen.

Final tournament overview: 22 and 23 July 2017

The tag kids (u7,9,11) were really competitive at all 3 age-groups. They did not place in the top 3 but the difference in a lot of their games was often just a try or two. The kids never gave up and we were proud of their effort! It was great to see the progress the kids made throughout the year. We need to keep these little ones keen on rugby!

It was a tough weekend at the Virginia State-wide season-ending tournament. Our tackle boys (u13,15 and High School) had the tougher schedule and fought hard for little gain. Special mention must be made of the u15 boys who were unlucky to win only one game. They fought like demons and we are proud of their performances. The u13 boys had too many inexperienced players to compete with the bigger clubs, but they would have learnt from it. We are fighters and proud competitors!
